“As a physician, I have always enjoyed caring for patients, but what drew me to gastroenterology was the interaction of preventive and ongoing care. While I understand that a problem may show itself as a specific disease, I know that treating it often requires more than performing a great procedure. Educating my patients about preoperative and postoperative care and explaining disease processes is an essential part of my everyday practice.
“With more than 20 years’ experience, I’ve found that strong communication is the basis for earning your trust. I also believe it helps you heal more quickly in addition to helping me become a better physician.”

“I have always felt that medicine was a noble profession. What interested me particularly in gastroenterology was its diversity. I liked that it combines consultative care, medical management and procedural medicine. Yet, while I still enjoy these aspects of what I do, what motivates me is compassion. I care about people, and I believe that compassion and commitment are essential to providing the excellent care that each and every person wants and deserves.
“Through experience, I’ve gained an understanding of the psychosocial aspects of gastrointestinal disorders. They present differently, and they affect people differently.
So my patients’ best care depends on me understanding who they are and being invested in their health. I listen. I sit down and talk with them and their families, and I don’t rush them. Ultimately, I treat them with the focus, consideration and compassion that I would want for my own family.”

“My father, a physician, played a large role in my initial interest in the field of medicine. His struggle with a gastrointestinal illness and my close personal involvement with his care later led me to my focus in gastroenterology.
“Through experience, I’ve learned that relationships are the key to excellent care. I evaluate patients’ symptoms by taking into account the person as a whole rather than treating a specific complaint. My objective is to provide excellent healthcare to each and every one of my patients and to help educate them about their illness through open communication.”

“I chose a career in medicine for the simple reason that I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. When it came time to choose a specialty, I found gastroenterology attractive because it embodied, for me, a combination of what medicine is all about. As a physician, my objective is to heal the sick wherever and whenever possible, improving the quality of life for people with very real problems. In digestive medicine, achieving this objective requires a broad knowledge base and diagnostic skill while combining direct therapeutic intervention as well as medical management.
“I believe that being a physician and a specialist means making a daily commitment to doing what’s best and most appropriate for each individual I see. From experience, I know that patients just want to get better, and that’s why I’m here. It’s why I never limit or restrict my availability and always give them the time and attention they need. Ultimately, excellent medical care is all about caring, and I never forget that. It’s what motivates me to do my best for every patient.”

“As a physician and gastroenterology specialist, my goal is to help people prevent illness and live healthy, productive and fulfilling lives. At the same time, it’s a fact that problems do arise, which is why I also aim to provide the highest standard of care for the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders. This is why I strive to understand you — your needs, your lifestyle and the things that are important to you. I enjoy this level of personal interaction, but what matters most is that it is a necessary part of resolving your health concern.
“A vital part of my approach to your health is communication. Healthcare in general can be a frightening prospect all on its own. But with the discomfort, embarrassment and anxiety that are often associated with gastrointestinal problems, that fear can be made worse. So I see my role not only as a caregiver but also as trusted guide and partner.”

“What I enjoy about gastrointestinal medicine is the ability to work with and help others while being consistently challenged and rewarded. The field of gastroenterology is always changing and advancing. At the same time, each person’s gastrointestinal problems are unique... and intertwined with the life, personality, needs and concerns of that particular individual. So each day is different. And each person who trusts me with their care comes with the expectation that I will devote every bit of my experience, knowledge and dedication to helping them get the relief and help they need using the most effective and up-to-date tests and therapies.
“My approach to your care is to offer the highest degree of patience and empathy along with the highest standard of care. I listen carefully, and I incorporate the concerns and suggestions of my patients and their family members into my workup and diagnosis. And your comfort and satisfaction are as high a priority for me as the results of your care.”

“Spending time with patients and getting to know them and their families, is one of the most rewarding aspects of medicine. Through these relationships a partnership towards better health and wellbeing is created. Open communication and trust is key to developing this partnership, particularly in gastroenterology where patients may have concerns or questions that they may be uncomfortable or even embarrassed to talk about.
“I give my patients my focused attention, my thoughtful interest in their health situations, and my best recommendations and treatments for their needs. Many patients have already seen a number of physicians and have not yet felt like they have truly been heard. Not surprisingly, they are very frustrated. Giving them an opportunity to tell their story and reassuring them that we will work through the problem together is therefore, of utmost importance.”

“I enjoy getting to know people and helping them with their problems, so I decided on a career in healthcare. As a nurse practitioner, I can spend quality time with patients to understand their problems and to help them with symptom improvement, which is my most important objective.
“Every person is an individual, and what may work for one patient may not work for another. So I am open and honest with them, which usually opens the door to trust and enables patients to be straightforward about their problems that are sometimes embarrassing.
“I truly care for my patients, and talking with them and helping them is very gratifying for me.”
