Dr. Mettu was raised in the beautiful mountains of eastern Kentucky, where both of his parents were local physicians. After completing his undergraduate degree at Duke University, he returned to Kentucky and earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville. He later moved to Chicago for his residency and fellowship, eventually falling in love with the city and life in the western suburbs.
Dr. Mettu believes in combining his medical expertise with a genuine desire to understand his patients’ concerns and needs. Dr. Mettu wants to see every one of his patients live their fullest and best version of themselves. He believes communication and education are essential to building a relationship with his patients, as well as understanding their specific concerns and developing individualized treatments to meet their short- and long-term goals. Each visit should be a holistic examination into their symptoms, their underlying health conditions, their lived experience, and obstacles they’ve run into that has limited their ability to achieve their goals.
As a board-certified Gastroenterologist, Dr. Mettu’s interests include chronic liver diseases (including alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, aka steatotic liver diseases), functional gastro-intestinal disorders (chronic constipation, irritable bowel syndromes, dyspepsia, etc), chronic acid reflux (GERD), and inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease), amongst many others.
When not practicing gastroenterology, Dr Mettu loves traveling with his family while experiencing new foods and cultures, is a die-hard supporter of Chicago’s professional sports teams (no matter how disappointed he is after every season), and is always trying to keep up with family’s newest interest (skiing, cycling, golf and on, and on…)
