Colon Cancer Screening
Did you know colon cancer is the third most common cancer amongst men and women in the United States? The newest guidelines from the American College of Gastroenterology recommend that average-risk adults begin colon cancer screenings at age 45. Through earlier screening, colon polyps can be removed before they become cancerous. Earlier screening also helps to diagnose and treat colorectal cancers at an earlier stage. Our providers continually exceed the benchmark for adenoma detection rate (ADR) demonstrating their commitment to medical excellence.

When should I see a gastroenterologist?
You should schedule a GI consultation if you experience symptoms such as abdominal pain, chronic heartburn, difficulty swallowing, unexplained weight loss, rectal bleeding, or changes in bowel habits. Our gastroenterology specialists in Naperville, Plainfield, and Sandwich, IL, provide expert diagnosis and treatment to help you manage your digestive health.
What is a colonoscopy and why is it important?
A colonoscopy is a vital screening procedure that allows a gastroenterologist to examine the colon for polyps, inflammation, or signs of colorectal cancer. Suburban Gastroenterology offers colonoscopy services to help prevent colon cancer and ensure early detection of digestive health issues.
What is an EGD (upper endoscopy)?
An EGD, or upper endoscopy, is a procedure where a GI specialist uses a thin flexible scope to examine the esophagus, stomach, and upper small intestine. It is commonly used to evaluate acid reflux, ulcers, swallowing disorders, and other upper GI conditions.
What is capsule endoscopy?
Capsule endoscopy is an advanced diagnostic test where patients swallow a small capsule with a built-in camera. This allows our gastroenterology team to capture images of the small intestine, helping detect bleeding, inflammation, or tumors that are not easily visible with traditional procedures.
Do I need a referral for a GI consultation?
Most patients can schedule an appointment directly with our gastroenterologists, but some insurance plans may require a referral. Contact our office to confirm your coverage and book your GI consultation.
