Dr. Gundlapalli obtained her undergraduate degree in Biological Basis of Behavior from the University of Pennsylvania. She went on to earn her medical degree and Masters in Applied Physiology from the Rosalind Franklin University/The Chicago Medical School. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine, as well as Fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Rush University Medical Center while also completing a Masters in Clinical Research. Dr. Gundlapalli’s passion for medicine stems from her personal experience with her father’s rare gastrointestinal illness.This first hand involvement in his care fueled her dedication to the field, making her an advocate for breaking down barriers to care for patients with intestinal complaints.
Board certified in Gastroenterology, Dr. Gundlapalli’s philosophy revolves around empowering patients through active listening, empathy, education, and actionable steps toward improved health and longevity. She acknowledges the challenges patients face in recognizing and seeking care for intestinal issues, often complicated by difficulty in symptom characterization, societal stigmas, and lack of timely access to specialty care. Driven by a holistic approach, she emphasizes the interconnectedness of the gastrointestinal tract with lifestyle, physical and emotional well-being. Her special interests within the field include inflammatory bowel disease, fatty liver, obesity medicine, disorders of brain-gut interaction, hemorrhoid disease, fecal incontinence and pelvic floor health. She is a member of ASGE, AGA and ACG.
Outside the medical world, Dr. Gundlapalli cherishes moments with her husband, two wonderful sons, and their energetic yet gentle Viszla puppy, Taj. Her interests include running, yoga, travel, cooking, watching all things Marvel, documentaries, and stand-up comedy.
