ESD is another minimally invasive option for removing polyps or lesions that grow in the deeper layers of tissue. During the procedure, while you are asleep, the physician will inject a fluid into the polyp or lesion then will use an electrosurgical knife to remove the growth in one piece. If your physician took biopsies, they will be sent to the lab for further testing.

What is the difference between EMR and ESD?
ESD is usually performed if the polyps or lesions are too big to be removed by EMR, they don’t have defined borders or they involve the submucosa, which is a lining below the mucosa.
